The National Universities Commission (NUC) has revealed the discovery of approximately 100 fake professors across Nigerian universities.
Professor Abubakar Rasheed, the Executive Secretary of NUC, disclosed this during the annual retreat for Vice-Chancellors held from October 28 to November 5 at the NUC Headquarters in Abuja.
These details have been posted on the commission’s website, and Professor Rasheed urged vice-chancellors to verify the list of professors in their universities.
An updated version of the Directory of Full Professors and Statistical Digest of the Nigeria University System (NUS) is set to be published by December 2019 to enhance the visibility of NUS locally and internationally.
Professor Rasheed emphasized the collective responsibility in combating fake professors and urged vice-chancellors to report any such cases.
Anomalies, especially in private universities, were highlighted, with the NUC scribe appreciating the cooperation in uploading professors’ curricula vitae for compiling the directory.
The retreat aimed at addressing challenges and discussing responsibilities within the Nigeria University System (NUS).
Professor Rasheed assured federal university vice-chancellors of continued government efforts to appoint technocrats and elder statesmen as Chairmen and Pro-Chancellors of Governing Councils.
