For the records, I’ll make some things clearly straight, I’m friends with Kabiru Amadu and I’m chairing his committee on Townhall meetings and as such you are free to think I’ll put some sentiments in my submissions. However do justice to yourself, to me and to the dan majalisa in question.
According to the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended the duties of the members has been clearly spelt out; law making correction and ammendments section 58(1), control of funds section 81(1), investigation section 88 and also removal of president or vice president and clearly captured in section 143 of the 1999 constitution as amended.
The above being said, it is important to note that a representative ‘dan aike ne’ wakilci shi kai, as such he/she has to carry those he is representing along, he must find ways to interact with his people and hear their views on happenings. Most members open constituency offices but few come back to talk face to face with their constituents.
The ZamTracka rating was based on three indexex each carrying a percentage of points, the first being a form of strategy used for civic engagement, which carries a chunk of 40%, making a member score 1 whole point. Hon. Kabiru Amadu has a town Hall Meeting committee which is solely responsible for civic engagement, the maiden Townhall meeting took place in Tsafe, it was a huge one and constituents came out to say their minds. The maiden Townhall was not without its issues as such a review was made and thereby mushroom engagements where considered afterwards making him clinch the 1 point.
Index B considered level of execution of projects while index C assessed the impact of the projects considering capital projects as against empowerment projects. You’ll agree that Maipalace has surpassed his peers in all these.
Kabiru Amadu ran an exceptional campaign, an all inclusive one canvassing the nooks and crannies of the constituency, in villages and hamlets, in towns and cities, in the marketplace and village square, on motorcycles and tricycles his campaign trail of enthusiastic youth filled with hope transverse these areas to garner votes and support and thry did got those votes and support.
I always advise him to work on his weak areas, as mutum tara shike bai cika goma ba, the genuine complaints from some quarters need to be listened to and addressed, more avenues should be created to listen to constituents and never to forget that shi hwa dan aike ne, and I’m very sure our humble Reps would never fail us.
