Opinion By Comrade Maigandi Bello
The recent impeachment of the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, may not have been seen and viewed by today’s political enthusiasts who possibly don’t know it might have forgotten a short story that took place in Nigeria a few decades ago but this short piece would remind them. It was a case of the son paying for the sin of the father.
The way General Aliyu Gusau ended captain Bala Shagari’s military carrier is the same way Governor Bello Mutawallen Maradun of Zamfara cum Zamfara House of Assembly judicially and mercilessly impeached General Aliyu Gusau’s only son who was Zamfara State Deputy Governor, Mr Mahdi Aliyu Gusau
They spent their entire life using primitive accumulations, enriching themselves at the detriment of youths, nation-building making expendable wealth – making it impossibly for the poor to compete with their families in the quest for political power.
This was coming close to four decades after late Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari’s administration was overthrown by former Nigerian military Head of state, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd) and his colleagues like General Aliyu Mohammed Gusau who was from the same state of origin as Shehu Shagari.
As if that wasn’t enough, they crashed Shehu Shagari’s innocent first son’s military carrier at the time Bala Shagari was a captain in the Nigerian Military which if at all they allowed Shagari’s firstborn to remain in the service, by now, he would have risen to the level of army General or one of the Service Chiefs and retired honourably. If they did not crash his career, only God knows what Bala Shagari’s family,
people of Sokoto state and nation, in general, would have achieved.
The point I am trying to make here is that God doesn’t sleep. He is an Overseer of everything in the World. General Gusau and IBB are now reaping their misdeeds, currently facing the consequences of their previous injustice or actions of such atrocities committed against innocent families.
Again, today, Allah has fought for Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari who was lying beneath the ground in his home town where his son who happened to be the victim of military brutality and injustice, Muhammad Bala Shagari is currently serving as a District Head of Shagari.
However, based on current realities on the ground, Alh Bala Shagari (Sarkin Mafaran Shagari) whose military carrier was crashed by people that hated his father without reason, Allah has made them and their families face consequences of evil they have been using against innocent people and Mahdi’s impeachment is a typical example of such payback of the time.
To this end, Bala Shagari (rtd) current status can never be compared with that of Mohammed Babangida and Mahdi Mohammed because the only thing Mohammed Babangida is good at is Horse riding and polo while Mahdi Aliyu Gusau spent all his life playing video games and car racing with the most expensive sports cars on the streets of Abuja.
So, one can imagine upon all people those are the kind of guys heartless politicians are considering to serve as state governors when there are youths that have dedicated their entire life for service to humanity with the capacity to take the lead in the nation-building.
Can anyone of them be compared by any standard with people like the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa and many teeming youths that have sacrificed their lives for nation-building?
Those are the types of Nigerian youths we need in power to improve the living standard of an ordinary person with decorum and respect not by abusing or distracting others.
It is important to add that before now, I was warned to stop criticising people of high connection like the ones mentioned above because I can be eliminated. That is the more reason I will never stop saying what I believe is the truth because If I am afraid of dying it means I don’t believe in my creator.
