Judiciary Applauds Nigerian Correctional Service For High Level Transparency

The Controller of Corrections FCT Command Ahmed Musa Ahmed has been applauded by the Honourable Chief Judge of FCT, Hon. Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf for the leadership he has provided the staff of the command in the discharge of their duties of reforming, rehabilitating and reintegrating inmates back to the society.

This was done when the Controller paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Chief Judge on Friday, 18th March at the High Court Complex in Maitama, Abuja.

In a statement signed by HU Chukwuedo, Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, a copy which was made available to the Spectacles on Tuesday, 22nd March, 2022.

Justice Baba Yusuf who was represented by Justice Kekemeke, the FCT Judiciary’s special Correctional Service liaison added that he marvels at the unrelenting and highly pushful way that the staff of the service dispatch their duties in ensuring that even the indigent inmates are granted quality legal representation and speedy dispensation of justice adding that both agencies are committed to utmost Justice delivery.

The Chief Judge further disclosed that the FCT Judiciary would continue to welcome collaborations in ideas and trainings to ensure that the FCT community is made safe.

Justice Yusuf used the opportunity to encourage Multinationals and Non Governmental Organizations who would wish to extend their social responsibility to the custodial centres to do so as it will boost the Criminal Justice System in general.

He particularly praised the correctional service officers who have been posted to all courts in FCT as Court Liaison Officers for their diligence as he promised to provide logistics and holding cells within the court premises to make their jobs lighter.

The Chief Judge also added that visits to the custodial centre for jail delivery would be more frequent as this would further reduce over crowding in the custodial centres.

Controller Ahmed Musa appreciated the Honourable Chief Judge for the accolades and attributing it to the peaceful working environment made possible by the leadership of the Controller General of Corrections Haliru Nababa mni.

The FCT Command has three custodial centres namely the Kuje Medium Security Custodial center; Suleja Medium Security Custodial centre and the Dukpa Model Farm Centre, Gwagwalada. Totally, the inmate population in the command stands at 1,548.1125 of these inmates are pretrial detainees while 423 inmates are fully convicted.
