Sustainability Of NYSC Image Rests On Corps Members, says AD PPRU

Corps members have been advised to uphold the image of the National Youth Service Corps as the sustainability of the scheme rests on their shoulders.

The NYSC Ogun State Assistant Directors and Head of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Florence Takom (JP), gave this charge during the PR lecture for corps members deployed to Ogun State and those dislodged from Lagos State to Ogun at the Gateway International Stadium on Tuesday, March 28, 2022.

Mrs Takom, who gave an overview of the activities of the NYSC PR, admonished Ogun corps members to ensure their actions elevate the scheme

“The sustainability of the NYSC image rests on you. Your action and inaction will tell whether the scheme continues or dies. You carry the image of the scheme and must project it positively,” she told corps members.

Speaking on the background of PR, Mrs Takom said, “Public relations is all about giving positive information and maintaining a positive image for an organisation or person. It is a management function because the PR officer has to know what the organisation or individual is all about, so that they’d be able to tell the public about the organisation or the individual.”

The PR expert also disclosed that some forms of public relations include; strategic communication, media relations, crisis communication, community relations, social media, and internal relations.

As it relates to the NYSC, Mrs Head of PPRU noted that the PR department oversees several aspects of the scheme which include the Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS), Publications, End of Service Year Magazines, Press Releases, Speeches for Chief Executives, Event Management, Protocol Duties, Corps Members Identity Cards, and Monitoring the media/press as well as managing the new media (Social Media).

She added that a good PR officer should have a good command of the language of communication.
