.ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOUBLE CHAIRS AND TABLES DONATED TO GOVERNMENT DAY SECONDARY SCHOOL MILLENNIUM QUARTERS GUSAU BY ZAMFARA DEPUTY GOVERNOR.
In line with his concern over the unfavourable condition bedeviling smooth teaching-learning process in the Government Day Secondary School at Millennium Quarters in Gusau, the State Deputy Governor Senator Hassan Muhammad Gusau Friday April 1st, 2022 launched the fulfilment drive of his earlier pledge to assist in addressing some of the major challenges affecting the school.
From a statement signed by the Comrade Babangida Umar Zurmi, ANIPR, Director General Press Affairs, Deputy Governor’s Office, Zamfara State, a copy of which was made available to the Spectacles on Saturday, 2nd April, 2022.
The statement read, “Senator Hassan Muhammad Gusau had of recent coincidentally visited the school while on an unscheduled inspection exercise to some government offices on Thursday last week.
The visit to the school was originally not shortlisted among the public facilities to be paid such a surprise visit. He was warmly welcomed by the staff and the students.
Afterwards, the principal took the Deputy Governor round the school whereat he saw for himself with serious concern the deplorable conditions in which learning-teaching activities are run, as there were no chairs for students and, in some classrooms, there were no provision for blackboard, while no single chair or table in the female staff room.
At the end of the visit then, the Deputy Governor assured the school authority that he would personally come to their aid soon with a donation of one hundred and fifty double chairs and tables to ease the sufferings of both students and teachers.
He also promised to provide the school with five hundred and forty exercise books and fifty copies of the Glorious Qur’an. Similarly, the Deputy Governor has also directed the State Universal Basic Education Board to ensure quick drilling of a motorized borehole in the school for it to have adequate water supply.
Presenting the materials to the Honourable Commissioner of Education on behalf of the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Lawal Gusau said the gesture was a personal donation by the State Deputy Governor to complement the State Government’s efforts towards enhancing education sector of the economy.
He, therefore, called on the Commissioner and all other key stakeholders to utilise the properties in a good manner that would make them last longer.
Speaking while receiving the donation, the Education Commissioner Hajiya Zainab Lawal Gummi, represented by the Permanent Secretary Alhaji Kabiru Attahiru, thanked the Deputy Governor for the kind gesture and promised him of the ministry’s commitment to utilising the materials effectively and called on all other well-meaning individuals in the State to emulate the Deputy Governor in that direction.
In attendance at the handing over ceremony were the Chairman of the Teachers Service Board, some Special Advisers, Directors General and Directors of the Ministry, among many others.
