•As lawmakers urge Zamfara dep gov to be loyal to his principalThe Senate on Wednesday held a valedictory session in honour of the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Dr. Hassan Nasiha Mohammed.
Other outgoing federal lawmakers honoured by the Red Chamber are Senators Abdullahi Adamu (Nasarawa) and Abubakar Kyari (Borno), who emerged National Chairman and Deputy National Chairman (North) of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) respectively.
Several lawmakers extolled the virtues of Senator Nasiha and urged him to be loyal, trustworthy and supportive to his principal, Governor Matawalle of Zamfara State.
Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP, Abia) expressed delight that Senator Nasiha, who was elected on the platform of PDP as a senator representing Zamfara Central, is now a deputy governor of Zamfara State and APC chieftain.
“Wherever you are, remember your home, the PDP,” Abaribe told Senator Nasiha.
The Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia) said he knew Senator Nasiha since the time he served as a commissioner in Zamfara while he was Abia State governor.
Kalu, therefore, urged Senator Nasiha not to be confrontational to his governor.
“Deputy governors always want to take their masters’ seat. Don’t fight your governor, be a friend to your principal,” the lawmaker urged.
Senator Muhammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno) urged Zamfara deputy governor not to exhibit “Abariberic” behaviour (referring to Senator Abaribe’s clash with his then principal, Orji Kalu, when he served as Abia State governor in 1999).
Senator Tolulope Odebiyi (APC, Ogun) hailed Senator Nasiha as a patriotic and committed person to his people, while Senator Chukwuka Utazi (PDP, Enugu) described him as a committed family man.
Senator James Manager (PDP, Delta) urged him to continue to maintain senatorial integrity in the service to Zamfara people, adding that doing so would boost confidence in members of the National Assembly.
Senator Nasiha, in his brief remarks, pledged to work in harmony with his principal to provide quality governance to the Zamfara people.
He said he had experienced a progressive career as a politician from ward to state level, attributing his success to loyalty and commitment to serve the people.
He said without loyalty, he would not be where he is today.
He thanked his colleagues for the support extended to him during his sojourn in the National Assembly.
