Additional Emirate Councils Created In Zamfara State

In its plenary shortly after a Sallah week break, the State House of Assembly has amended the Zamfara State Emirate Council Establishment Law No. 15 of 2000.

Presenting the Bill before the Hon. House, the Deputy House Leader, Hon. Nasiru Bello Lawal Bungudu called on his colleagues to deliberate and consider the urgent need to amend the Bill which was established twenty-two years ago so as to bear the taste of time.

In their separate contributions on the proposed amendment, the Hon. Members stressed the need to amend the Bill and allow for the creation of more Emirate Councils in the State, considering their roles in the socio-economic development of the entire society. According to them, religious and traditional leaders have a great role to play in an effort to restore the lost glory of the State, as one of the most peaceful States in the country.

After full deliberation by the House, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya (Tafidan Kanwa) directed the Clerk of the House to read the Bill for the first and second time and later the House breaks into the Committee of the whole-House for further deliberation and recommendations.

Reporting the outcome of the Committee of the whole-house’ meeting at the plenary, Hon. Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya said the House came-up with recommendations among which include their unanimous agreement to create two more Emirate Councils in the State.

The two established Emirate Councils under the Law are ‘Yandoton Daji Emirate with second class Emir comprising ‘Yandoton Daji, Keta, Kizara, Bawa-Ganga, Kwaren-Ganuwa, Danjibga and Kunchin-Kalgo Districts with its headquarter at Birnin ‘Yandoto. While Bazai Emirate with second class Emir also is to have its headquarter at Jangeru with Bazai, Jangeru, Galadi, Katuru, Birnin Yaro Tungar Kaho and Tubali Districts.

With this development now, the State has nineteen Emirate Councils and the Bill as amended is now forwarded to His Excellency, the State Executive Governor for his assent.
