Zamfara Govt To Upgrade Damba Covid-19 Isolation Centre To General Hospital

The State Government’s intention was announced by the State Deputy Governor Distinguished Senator Hassan Muhammad Jarman Gusau during an official visitation exercise to some some health facilities in Gusau the state capital on Tuesday, 25th May, 2022.

In a statement signed by the Comrade Babangida Umar Zurmi, ANIPR, Director-General Press, Affairs, Office of the Deputy Governor, Zamfara State and made available to the Spectacles today.

The statement reads, “the visitation took the Deputy Governor to Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Damba Covid 19 Isolation Center and Sabon Gida Primary Health Center for reassessment of the condition of each facility.

At Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital located at the former Ali Akilu Square adjacent to Tudun-Wada Roundabout, the Deputy Governor, along with his entourage, was taken round by its Chief Medical Director and inspected the newly constructed block of building that accommodated Intensive Care Unit, Female/ Peathatric Surgical Ward, Modern Theatre Section, as well as Radiology, Orthopaedic, and Ex-ray Departments.

He expressed satisfaction with the high-level quality equipment being provided by the administration of Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle, assuring that provision of the essential sections were timely as they will cater for the needs of the increasing population, health-wise, in the State.

The Deputy Governor further stressed the need for the management of the Specialist Hospital to ensure heeding to the urgent call for commencement of normal operations in each of them. He gave particularly reference to the Orthopaedic Department, saying that its service is highly demanded for relieving increasing number of patients from travelling to far away Kano, Kaduna and Sokoto for treatment of minor, major and complicated fractures.

At the Covid 19 Isolation Centre Damba Area, also constructed by Governor Matawalle, the Deputy Governor inspected the structures and facilities put in place. Thereafter, he directed the Hon Commissioner for Health Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar (MC) to come up with technical recommendations on the possibilities of upgrading the Center to a full-pledged General Hospital standard for its effective usage as a State Government-owned structure that augment services being rendered in the existing health care facilities in the State capital and its environs.

The Jarman Gusau, later on continued with the day’s official engagements, inspecting another Primary Health Care Centre constructed by the present administration of Governor Bello Matawalle at Sabon Gida near the Federal University Gusau permanent site along Zaria Road.

During the inspection, the Deputy Governor noticed some grey areas that need to be addressed by the contracting firm and it’s client the State Primary Health Care Services Management Board.

He further directed the Executive Secretary of the Board to ensure urgency in compliance, as the State Government would commission the facilities any time from now.

The Deputy Governor was accompanied at the visit by the State Commissioner for Health Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar (MC) Tsafe, Special Adviser Alhaji Sani Danjuma Dambo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Pharmacist Aliyu Maikiyo Maradun and Dr Tukur Ismail, among many others.
