The former Chief of staff Government House Gusau, Zamfara state, Bashir Mohammed Maru has been arraigned before Gusau Magistrate Court 1 for alleged misappropriation of government vehicle attached to his office when he served as Deputy Chief of staff.
Mohammed was charged along with four other persons for alleged criminal conspiracy and criminal misappropriation, contrary to section 95 and 97 of the penal code law.
Those charged along with the erstwhile Deputy Chief of staff are, Isa Jabbi Usman, Shua’ibu Musa, Yusuf Bello and Malam Yazid.
Two of the accused persons, Isa Jabbi Usman and Shua’ibu Musa were in the court, while the other three, Bashir Mohammed Maru, Yusuf Bello and Malam Yazid were at large.
There were heated debate in the court between the government lawyer, Barrister Mohammed Aminu and counsels to the defendants on whether the court has the jurisdiction to entertain the case or not.
The Presiding judge, Magistrate Sa’idu Garba Gurbin Bore adjourned the case for ruling stressing that a date would be communicated to both parties.
Addressing Journalists after the Court’s session, the government’s lawyer, Barrister Mohammed Aminu said, “We have five accused persons in connection with alleged criminal conspiracy and criminal misappropriation”.
“Two of them Isa Jabbi Usman and Shua’ibu Musa were in the court while the others, Bashir Mohammed Maru, Yusuf Bello and Malam Yazid took to their heels. That is to say, they have fled”.
Aaminu stressed that, one of the reasons why they sought the court to adjourn the case was to enable them get the case file in order to see whether or not they have evidence on the allegations against the accused persons.
“If we have evidence, we charge them before the appropriate court”.
“And if there is no evidence, as ministers of the temple of Justice, we are not intimidating them, we are not persecuting them, we are simply going to terminate the case”. Concluded Barrister Mohammed Aminu.
