Minimum Wage Road Map In Zamfara State

The head of service, Alh Kabiru Mohammed Gayari had a long, intensive, in-depth, frank and touchy meeting with the Leadership of the Nigerian labour Congress, led by it’s chair, Commrade Sani Haliru today. The discussions dragged into the night with each item tabled and exhausted fairly. The meeting delved around minimum wage and general welfare of civil servants in the state.

This was contained in a statement signed and issued to the newsmen by the Director Head of Service, Zamfara State. Malam Ahmed Ibrahim.

The statement partly reads: “At the end, the parties rose after a mutual understanding by both sides, with Leadership of the NLC appreciating some giant strides and quantum leap by the administration of His Excellency the State Executive Governor, Dr Bello Muhammad, Matawallen Maradun, whith the intervention of the Head of Service, among which includes, but not restricted to;

1. Employment of indigenes of the state across many Ministries, Departments and Agencies across the State.
2. Implementation of promotions of over 6000 civil servants, and still ongoing
3. Presentation of one of the best Salary scale table for, consideration, review and possible adoption.
4. Honest commitment shown by this Government for revival and automation of annual increments for civil Servants.
5. Pronouncement by the Head of Service for implementation of minimum wage, as soon as practicable.

“The delay” he annotated “was stalled by unpredictable economic variables, which by the grace of the almighty God will be history with the light in the tunnel now sightablle.

6. Listening ear lended and transparency shown always by the State Executive Governor and the Head of Service around feasibility of implementation of the lingering minimum wage.
7. Intervention of the Head of Service in mitigating dispute involving Civil servants occupying Alasawa Housing Estate, Gusau, and the Federal Mortgage Bank over their plan to evict the occupants as a result of some communication and procedural gaps.

The Head of Service, Alh Kabiru Mohammed, thanked the labour leadership for their commitment to the general welfare of Civil servants on one hand and soft pedal, diplomatic and splendid approach in engaging the Government, taking into consideration the plight around the economy of the State on the other hand.

The meeting was attended by the Hon Special Adviser on labour Matters as well as the lieutenants of the Head of Service.
