Probe Of Presidency, Minister: Matawalle Is Free To His Opinion – FG

The Federal Government has responded to the governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, who demanded that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) include the president and the departing ministers in its investigation of corrupt officials.

Matawalle had in a statement told the EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, to stop castigating governors and beam his searchlight on the Presidency and members of the Federal Executive Council.

He urged the EFCC boss to ensure the commission’s investigation must be a holistic and not selective.

The Presidency is made up of President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Chief of Staff, Ministers among others.

Matawalle had said, “The investigation must be wholistic and not selective. It is in this respect that the recent invitations and pronouncement by the EFCC Chair is imbalance, incomplete, hypocritical and unnecessarily skewed.

“I demand that the EFCC chair extend similar invitations to officers of the Presidency and members of the Federal Executive Council, which is the highest tier of government in the country.”

But l the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, in his reaction said that the governor expressed his personal opinion.

Asked to respond to the comment, he said, “The governor has the right to make suggestions, that is his own opinion.”
