EFCC Chairman Demanded $2m Bribe From Me – Matawalle

Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has made a startling accusation against Abdulrasheed Bawa, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), claiming that Bawa demanded a $2 million bribe from him.
The governor’s allegation adds to the growing tensions between him and the anti-graft agency.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Governor Matawalle called for Bawa’s immediate resignation, stating that the EFCC Chairman has serious questions to answer regarding corruption.

In response, Bawa asserted that he has nothing to hide and challenged the governor to present any evidence of wrongdoing.

During an interview with BBC Hausa, Governor Matawalle expressed his lack of trust in Bawa, highlighting the need for transparency in handling corruption cases.

He stated, “Governors should not be solely blamed; the federal government also has control over the treasury. What actions does the EFCC boss take against them? If he leaves his position, it will become clear that he lacks integrity.

I have evidence against him. Let him step down, and within seconds, numerous individuals will present evidence of bribes he has accepted. He knows what he demanded from me, but I declined. He requested a $2 million bribe, and I have proof of this.”
