The governor of Kaduna state, Uba Sani, has said that the formation of the state police is the only way to end the security challenges that Nigeria is facing.
Sani, in an interview with Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday, said that the state police is necessary considering the limited power of the governors over the security agencies.
He said he was happy that almost all state governors now agree that the state police are important.
He said, “Remember that I am the senator who took responsibility for the creation of state police in the National Assembly. We took the bill up to the conference committee level when we were trying to amend the constitution.
Uba Sani met with the leaders of the security agencies and promised to improve the fight against insecurity
“Of course the senate agreed and supported my bill to create state police but we have a conference committee with the house of representatives, unfortunately, we have lost it at this stage, but I believe there is no way we can solve or solve the problem. of insecurity without the provision of state police.
“If you look at the way security is managed in Nigeria, state governors have little power in the affairs of security agencies in our country and as senators we have tried hard to ensure that we support all government security agencies but what We are disappointed. not much success has been achieved because we understand that state governors have limited powers.
“This is the reason why we believe that we need to create state police and I am happy that when the election is about to be held, almost all the state governors of Nigeria have met and agreed that the way to go is to create state police.”
