Zamfara Govt Clears Air On ‘Sacking Over 1,700 Workers’ Claim

The Zamfara State Government has described the claim as malicious, baseless and unfounded fake news that was trending on different social media platforms that it has sacked over one thousand seven hundred (1,700) workers from its payroll.

The clarification was made yesterday by the Secretary to the State Government, Mallam Abubakar Nakwada when executive members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Zamfara State Chapter paid him a congratulatory visit over his new appointment as the Secretary to the State Government.

This was contained in a press statement signed and issued to newsmen in Gusau, the State capital by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on broadcast media press and public affairs to the state governor, Mustafa Jafaru Kaura.

Mallam Nakwada further maintained that the state Government decided to only revert the appointment of fourteen (14) permanent secretaries that were made by the immediate past Administration of Governor Bello Muhammad ( Matawallen Maradun) shortly after the 18/03/2023 Gubernatorial Election in the state.

He then berated mischief makers who are mainly from the opposition party and urged them to accept defeat and allow the Administration of Governor Dauda Lawal to concentrate on the task of repositioning the state from misrule and bad governance of the previous Administration in the state.

The state chief scribes assured the union leaders that the present Administration in the state is working tirelessly to ensure that civil servants get their three months’ salary arrears income which was denied of them by the immediate past Administration of Governor Bello Muhammad (Matawallen Maradun), the administration which, according to Matawalle, had no plans to pay even Shortly for the support and understanding of Labour Leaders and by extension the entire workforce as well as the teaming populace of the state to further give the Government a chance to deliver on its six core mandates that will lift Zamfara to greater heights.

Earlier speaking, the Chairperson of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the state comrade Sani Halilu (Magajin Rafin Kurya ) said they were at the SSG’s office to formally congratulate him on his well-deserved appointment and to further open ways of cooperation between the new Administration on one hand and the NLC on the other.

Comrade Sani said they welcome any decision of the State Government that will sanitise the prompt payment of workers’ salaries including any form of verification that will flush out abnormalities in the states’ payroll and called on the State Government to fully engage the NLC.

He then commended the state Government’s efforts for restoring normal water supply to Gusau and its environs which involves the purchase of new water treatment machines which he described as commendable.

The meeting was attended by the two permanent secretaries in the SSG’s office, Dr Lawal Hussain, Permanent Secretary of Cabinet Affairs and his counterpart of General Services Alh Bashir Salihu Usman Mafara.
