Shortly after the completion of the investigation that the security forces conducted yesterday in the residences of Bello Muhammad Matawalle, the former governor of Zamfara state in Gusau and Maradun, which they finally came out with the vehicles suspected to be looted by him.
The state opposition party, APC strongly criticized and accused the security forces of supporting PDP thugs who are looting public property without the law working against them.
In a press statement signed and issued to newsmen in Gusau, the State capital by the APC Publicity Secretary, Zamfara State chapter, Yusuf Idris Gusau.
The statement partly reads;
ZAMFARA POLICE AND EXTENSION OF PDP THUGS AND LOOTERS
When INEC declared Dauda Lawal Dare of the PDP as the new governor of Zamfara, his army of thugs who have been terrorizing innocent citizens of the state went gaga attacking APC members, government and APC offices and innocent political shop owners looting and destroying what they could.
All the destruction and vandalisation was carried out at the presence of police and nothing is done and no official statement was issued from PDP upto date which we believe are the architect of all the vandalisation and looting of innocent APC supporters in the state as well as government properties which are yet to be recovered.
True to type, now that PDP is in power, the governor personally instructed the criminals with backing from some corrupt security personnel to go to former governor Matawalle’s residences in Gusau and Maradun in the name of recovering ‘government vehicles’ to enter into the main buildings, destroy and steal the former governor’s personal belongings including items bought in preparation for the former governor’s daughters’ wedding.
This goes to confirm that Mr. Dauda Lawal Dare definitely has an ulterior motive and a hand in all the destruction perpetrated by the PDP thugs.
The government came out with a new found lie that they recovered 40 government vehicles through their invasion, we want to make it categorically clear that there are always only 13 official vehicles on the former governor’s motorcade which include two advance party, one pilot, one press crew, one for protocol, one DSS lead car, principal vehicle, DSS cover-up, spare car, SIB vehicle, cover-up pilot, ambulance and cover-up military vehicle.
It is a known fact that the former governor has his own personal choice cars, and if the Dauda Lawal Dare-led government says it recovered 40 state owned vehicles, their documents should be made public.
Apart from this, the former governor had received campaign car donations of many Volkswagen gulf brands which the state hardly used as official vehicle not forgetting that Matawalle has been a car dealer of high profile and as long as the Dauda administration does not provide the documents for these, it should be prepared for what is to come.
A matured leader leads by good examples, but when a leader uses thugs to destroy, maim, harass, steal and intimidate using state powers, then it means innocent citizens are in trouble.
Up to this moment, no notice was given to either Matawalle or his representative on any impending search warrant and recovery of vehicles, even as they went beyond vehicle recovery by breaking and entering into rooms to steal.
As law abiding citizens, we are calling on particularly the Police Force Headquarters through the office of the Inspector-General to set up a full scale investigation on this matter and bring all the culprits however highly placed to book.
We want to urge all our members to continue to be patient and allow the law to take its course while we are taking inventory of the damages done.
