Zamfara Gov’t Suspends Activities Of ZAROTA With Immediate Effect

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State on Sunday, approved with immediate effect the suspension of all activities of Zamfara State Road Traffic Control Agency (ZAROTA).

The announcement of the suspension came from the state radio house today at around five o’clock this evening and the agency is hereby directed to hand over all government properties in its possession to the office of the Secretary to the State Government with immediate effect.

The Agency known by its acronym ZAROTA was established by former governor Abdulaziz Yari to sanitise the roads by ensuring every motorist in the state upheld the law, but the agency did not get full support it needed from his administration.

Likewise, during the administration of Bello Muahammad Matawallen Muradun, the agency was renewed with the aim of bringing this institution to limelight and reducing unemployment rate in the state, but unfortunately, he followed the footsteps of his predecessor, even the salaries of the agency’s workers were unable to be paid up to the end of his tenure.

This led to the agency’s personnel involved in the habit of collecting bribe, assaulting motorists and lacking in manner of approach which sparked increasing number of complaints from members of the public and travelers plying federal and state roads within the state.

Now the present administration of Dauda Lawal has suspended the agency and its staff indefinitely and has not explain whether it will reinstate them in the later time or not.
