Disappearance Of Corpse During Burial Sparks Confusion In Ondo

In a puzzling turn of events, the remains of 63-year-old Olajumoke Julianah Ogunsuyi, scheduled for burial on Saturday, vanished from the morgue of a government hospital, causing bewilderment in Osi town, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Reportedly, the body of the late Mrs. Ogunsuyi had been placed in the mortuary section of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Teaching Hospital by her family.

A source, speaking on Friday, revealed the shocking discovery made by the family when they returned to the hospital’s morgue to retrieve the body for burial – the corpse was nowhere to be found.

“The wait for several hours for the attendants to present Mrs. Ogunsuyi’s body turned into surprise and disbelief when she was found to be missing,” the source recounted.

A police insider familiar with the situation disclosed that both mortuary attendants and hospital officials were summoned for questioning.

The investigation unveiled a startling revelation: the body of Mrs. Ogunsuyi had been inadvertently exchanged with another family, intended for burial in Oba Ile town, also situated in Akure North LGA of the state.

Efforts to obtain a response from Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, proved unsuccessful, as our correspondent’s attempt to seek comments via her official line had not yielded results as of the time of press.
