Vice-President Kashim Shettima has announced a collaborative effort between the federal government and Wema Bank to establish Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) digital hubs in seven states. These hubs aim to equip one million youths with essential digital skills.
In an official statement from the vice-president’s office, Director of Information Olusola Abiola stated that this initiative is a response to the government’s commitment to fostering digital employment opportunities for the youth. The decision to proceed with this endeavor was made after a productive meeting between the vice-president and representatives from Wema Bank in Abuja.
The initiative, aptly named FGN/ALAT Digital and SkillNnovation Hub, will initially launch in Lagos and Borno States, followed by Katsina, Cross River, Anambra, Oyo, and Kano. Wema Bank, a prominent financial institution in Nigeria, will collaborate in managing and operating these centers.
Key Objectives of the Program:
The vice-president emphasized that the FGN/ALAT Digital and SkillNnovation Hub will offer comprehensive training in software engineering, product design, business analysis, cloud computing, and more. This specialized curriculum is designed to upskill one million young adults, nurturing their talents and potential.
Furthermore, the initiative includes a mentorship component. A network of experts will mentor 500,000 SMEs across Nigeria, providing guidance and coaching to drive their business growth and success.
In support of this initiative, collaborative grants totaling N500 million will be made available to SMEs and techpreneurs, with contributions from both the federal government and Wema Bank.
The FGN/ALAT Digital and SkillNnovation Hub aims to serve as a centralized platform for cutting-edge digital skills training, mentorship, and networking opportunities. By focusing on entrepreneurship, skills development, and workforce integration, this initiative endeavors to empower one million youths to thrive in the digital economy and enhance the contributions of SMEs to Nigeria’s economic landscape.
