JUST IN: Female Soldier Accidentally Shoots Captain In Adamawa

A female soldier enforcing the curfew imposed by the Adamawa government fatally shot a senior colleague at a checkpoint in Yola, the state capital.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri had imposed the curfew after vandals breached a government warehouse and looted various items, including palliatives intended to alleviate the impact of the fuel subsidy.

Sources informed news men that Lance Corporal Nkiru, the female soldier in question, shot a captain who attempted to mediate during her confrontation with civilians at Fire Service Round About in the state capital.

According to security sources, the female soldier insisted that motorists returning home during curfew hours should turn back, even though some had identified themselves as essential workers. Despite their explanations, she remained steadfast.

“One group of individuals stopped at the checkpoint and identified themselves as essential workers, but the female soldier maintained her stance that they should turn back. A captain stepped forward to mediate. Unfortunately, she had already prepared her rifle, and she inadvertently discharged it, resulting in his accidental death,” stated a security officer.

The victim was urgently transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Yola, where he was pronounced deceased. The suspect was promptly apprehended by fellow soldiers and taken into custody.

Our correspondent uncovered that the female soldier has faced multiple accusations of intimidating civilians and prematurely arming her rifle.

Upon visiting the 23 Armoured Brigade Yola headquarters for verification, Brigadier General Muhammad Gambo, the Commander, conveyed that journalists are required to submit written appointment requests before he can engage with them.
