Education: Private School Certificates In Kano State Revoked

The Kano State government has taken the decision to revoke the certificates of all private schools currently operating within the state, effective immediately.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Private and Voluntary Institutions, Baba Abubakar Umar, made this announcement during a meeting with private school proprietors on Saturday.

Umar informed the proprietors that they are now required to complete new registration forms in order to obtain new certificates.

This action is in line with the state government’s commitment to streamline the operations of private schools, ensuring strict adherence to established laws and guidelines.

Umar also urged school proprietors to fulfill their 10 percent tax obligation to the government on time, emphasizing that his return to overseeing private schools is not intended to intimidate anyone but rather to ensure compliance.

He stressed that any school found violating state operational laws, including those related to equipment, operational environment, curriculum, and calendar, may face closure. He also mentioned the development of a software solution to address various concerns from the government, school proprietors, parents, and job seekers within the private school sector.

Speaking on behalf of the proprietors, Muhammad Malam Adamu, the Chairman of the Kano chapter of the National Association of Private School Owners, lauded this move as both impressive and praiseworthy.
