Zamfara Govt Launches Free Modified Medical Outreach

The Zamfara State Government has initiated a specialized medical outreach program to address crucial healthcare needs and enhance the well-being of its residents.

In an official press release distributed to the media in Gusau, the State capital, the Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity) to the Zamfara Governor announced the launch of this program on Sunday, August 13, making the information available to The Spectacles.

Working in collaboration with the office of the First Lady of Zamfara State, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, the initial phase of this medical outreach aims to offer no-cost medical services to individuals requiring cataract extraction, groin swellings (hernias, hydroceles), vesicovaginal fistula repairs (VVF), and health education.

Sulaiman Bala Idris reported that the modified medical outreach, which commenced last Friday, has already treated 81 cases of cataracts and 49 cases of groin swellings.

He went on to explain that this special outreach has been designed to serve 1,000 patients with groin swellings, 200 patients needing vesicovaginal fistula repairs (VVF), and 1,000 patients with cataracts on a monthly basis.

The statement elaborated: “The Zamfara State Government formed a committee of experts to evaluate various service centers within the State, identifying prevalent surgical issues in the population.

Based on their findings, the committee selected cataract extraction, groin swellings (hernias, hydroceles), vesicovaginal fistula repairs (VVF), and health education as the initial focus for the program’s first year.

“This groundbreaking initiative marks the first instance in Zamfara’s history where the State Government has undertaken a no-cost medical outreach of such magnitude.

“The ongoing outreach employs tele-screening for patients residing in rural and semi-urban areas, ensuring that specialized care reaches those in need. A remote screening process has been implemented, enabling patients to receive treatment at designated centers in Gusau.

The committee also assessed the Drugs and Medical Consumables Management Agency (DMCMA) in Gusau and expressed confidence in its ability to supply the required materials for the outreach program.

“In a commitment to rejuvenate the healthcare sector and driven by compassion, Governor Dauda Lawal expanded the program’s scope to encompass all 14 local government areas of the State.

The designated centers for this outreach include General Hospital Gusau, King Fahad General Hospital, and Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital. Exceptional cases will be referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau.”
