Nigerians Anticipate Long-Awaited Security Enhancements – IGP

During the inauguration of the Police Response Unit and other initiatives in Lagos State, the IGP urged officers in Lagos to steer clear of corruption and any behaviors that could harm the force’s reputation.

Addressing reporters in Lagos, the head of the Nigeria Police Force emphasized their efforts to minimize crime across regions such as Abuja-Kaduna Road and the South East. He assured that visible actions would soon follow.

He further remarked, “Today we’ve introduced the CRU. We’ll progressively address these matters.” Additionally, the IGP affirmed:

“The CRU aims to foster transparency, instill public confidence, and promote collaborative efforts. Complaints now have a designated platform.”

“We are committed to ensuring the effectiveness of the CRU and other units. Our staff will be skilled professionals of high integrity, receiving consistent training.”

The Inspector General praised the Lagos Commissioner of Police for swiftly establishing the Police Complaints Unit (PCU).

Lagos CP, Idowu Owohunwa, noted, “In addition to its ethical complaint functionality, the Lagos State Complaint Response Unit offers an e-crime reporting feature. This empowers citizens to report crimes remotely, eliminating the need to visit police stations.”

“The Lagos State SCRU model acts as a central criminal complaint clearing house. It electronically processes complaints to relevant divisions, departments, or units for subsequent investigation.”

Owohunwa continued, “The applications in the Unit also facilitate statistical analysis of crime and complaints against police conduct, following global best practices.”

He emphasized that this standard aligns with Lagos’ expectations and the aspiration for integrated policing functions.

This ultramodern Call Centre, known as the Lagos State Complaint Response Unit, operates 24/7 and can be accessed through multiple platforms including WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, and more.

CP Owohunwa concluded, “Our officers have undergone specialized training, supported by technical and corporate partners.”
