Kaduna Gov’t Enlists 7,000 Vigilantes to Combat Banditry, Kidnapping

The Kaduna State Government has taken a significant step in enhancing security within the state by enrolling 7,000 youths into the state’s vigilance service. This move is aimed at supplementing the efforts of federal security agencies in their ongoing battle against insecurity.

During the commencement of the training program for the newly recruited vigilante members at the Police College Kaduna, Governor Uba Sani reiterated his commitment to employing every possible means to eradicate the threats posed by banditry, kidnapping, and related crimes, which have been undermining the peace and security of the state’s citizens.

The assembly of thousands of young men and women at the Police College in the state capital was representative of all 23 Local Government Areas in the state.

Governor Sani explained that the vigilante members would be assigned to rural communities, as reported by The Spectacles.

The recruitment and screening process of these trainees is being conducted in collaboration with key stakeholders, including local government chairpersons, traditional leaders, and religious figures.

Governor Sani is confident that this initiative, in addition to significantly improving security and development within the state, will also generate employment opportunities for the youth.

In light of the challenges posed by the shortage of personnel to effectively combat bandits and other criminal elements within local communities, the Kaduna State Government is optimistic that the enlistment of these capable individuals into the state vigilance service will provide conventional security agencies with valuable local intelligence due to their familiarity with the terrain.
