In response to the fuel subsidy removal initiated by the Federal Government, the Niger State Government has announced its commitment to reintroducing bursary allowances for financially disadvantaged students pursuing higher education.
During a recent press briefing held at the Government House in Minna, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago unveiled this plan, as reported by The Spectacles.
Governor Bago emphasized the government’s recognition of the hardships faced by its citizens and called for support from stakeholders at all levels to facilitate the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.
Furthermore, Governor Bago revealed that the government is set to launch 200 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered Luxurious Buses to provide free public transportation for students attending both public and private schools across the state. Additionally, the government plans to introduce another 100 CNG-powered buses for the Suleja to Abuja route, offering affordable transport fares.
In a related initiative, Governor Bago announced the deployment of 50 CNG-powered buses to serve Minna and its surrounding areas, while an additional 50 CNG-powered buses will be introduced to cover all 25 Local Government Areas within the state.
Governor Bago also highlighted that civil servants will have the opportunity to benefit from this bus service, albeit at a discounted rate.
