The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has granted a substantial 100% increase in the allowances provided to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) undertaking their mandatory one-year service in Kogi State.
Governor Bello’s decision to raise the allowances is in recognition of the prevailing economic conditions and the significant role played by the NYSC program in both national and state development.
This announcement was made by the Governor during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 of the NYSC, held at the State’s Orientation Camp in Asanya, Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, on Tuesday.
Furthermore, Governor Bello has pledged a generous sum of N37.7 million as logistical support for the Youth Corps members as they transition to their respective primary assignments. He also urged employers in the private sector to prioritize the welfare of these young individuals.
Governor Bello encouraged the Corps members to uphold good behavior and foster unity by embracing the spirit of ‘One Nigeria,’ transcending ethnic and religious boundaries. He stressed the importance of demonstrating diligence, hard work, commitment, and understanding throughout their service years, as these qualities will equip them to overcome challenges post-service.
Governor Bello expressed his appreciation to the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Pastor (Mrs.) Adebimpe Williams, for her efforts in enhancing the camp’s infrastructure. He assured that other developmental requests would receive due consideration.
The State’s Coordinator of the NYSC, Pastor (Mrs.) Adebimpe Williams, and the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Honorable Idris Musa, praised Governor Yahaya Bello for his administration’s steadfast support for the program.
They also emphasized the importance of punctuality and commitment during the Corps members’ primary assignments, highlighting that absenteeism from their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA) remains a serious violation that the scheme strongly discourages, with significant disciplinary consequences.
In total, 1,888 Corps members, comprising 977 males and 911 females, have been deployed to Kogi State.
