JUST IN: Tribunal Dismisses Atiku’s Claims of Guinean Citizenship, Drug Case Against Tinubu

The Presidential Election Petitions Court has ruled against the allegations made by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, regarding dual citizenship and a drug conviction against President Bola Tinubu.

In a judgment on the objections raised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Tinubu concerning his eligibility to contest the February 25 presidential election, Justice Moses Ugo held that these allegations constituted new issues.

Justice Ugo upheld the objections raised by the APC and Tinubu, asserting that Atiku and the PDP could not introduce new issues that were not previously included in their petition related to eligibility.

In response to Tinubu’s challenge, Atiku argued that he was constitutionally barred from running for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria because he had forfeited the sum of $460,000 in a compromise agreement related to narcotics-related crime (proceeds of crime) in the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division.

Additionally, Atiku claimed that Tinubu had failed to disclose in his form EC9 that he held dual citizenship of Nigeria and Guinea, as he had voluntarily acquired citizenship in the Republic of Guinea.
