Exemplary Act: Kano Man Returns Deceased Father’s Salary To Gov’t

Kano State governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has lauded the commendable action of Yusuf Sulaiman Sumaila, a young man who voluntarily returned the salary that had been deposited into his deceased father’s account to the government.

This noteworthy event was disclosed in a statement by Abdullahi Ibrahim, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Digital Media, via his official Twitter account.

Sumaila’s father passed away in October 2022, but the state government continued depositing his salary until August 2023. Upon realizing the situation, the conscientious young man took it upon himself to return the sum of N328,115.75 to the government as a way to inform them of his father’s passing.

Yusuf explained that the state government had unwittingly continued to pay his late father’s salary into his account until August 2023 when he officially requested the payments to cease. Furthermore, he expressed his desire to return the accumulated amount of N328,115.75 to the government.

In a gesture of gratitude and recognition, Governor Yusuf personally invited Yusuf to his office to express his appreciation. During this meeting, the governor praised Yusuf for his remarkable act of honesty and encouraged other young individuals to follow his example in upholding the values of integrity and truthfulness.
