Private School Owners Hiring Unqualified Teachers, Worsening Education Standard – FG

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has criticized private school owners for hiring unqualified teachers, which it believes is contributing to a decline in education standards and is driven by profit motives. Prof Josiah Ajiboye, the registrar of the TRCN, made these allegations during an interview with Sunday PUNCH.

The TRCN, under the Federal Ministry of Education in Nigeria, is responsible for regulating and overseeing the teaching profession in both public and private schools. Prof Ajiboye highlighted that while many teachers in public schools are well-trained and qualified, the same cannot be said for private schools.

Additionally, the TRCN previously reported that approximately 90% of teachers in private schools in the south-western states of Nigeria were not qualified to be registered with the council.
