Kano Tricycle Rider Returns Missing ₦15m To Owner From Chad

In a heartwarming story of honesty and integrity, 22-year-old tricycle rider, Auwalu Salisu, from Yankaba in Nasarawa local government area of Kano, has returned N15 million to a passenger who had forgotten it while traveling from Chad to Kano for a business transaction. This substantial sum comprised 10.130 million CFA and N2.9 million.

The remarkable turn of events began when Salisu, upon hearing about the lost money on a local radio station in Kano, realized that it belonged to a passenger he had recently transported. It was only upon arriving home that he discovered the forgotten fortune.

With a strong sense of moral duty, Salisu promptly informed his parents about the situation, and they encouraged him to make every effort to locate the rightful owner.

Salisu recounted his journey, explaining, “I took the man from Badawa to Bata. I went back there after informing my parents. When I reached there, I didn’t meet him, and I kept searching. I went back home and gave the money to my mother, who kept it safe in her wardrobe. I was afraid because I was eager to return the money to its owner; I had no intention of keeping a penny of it. It’s not mine, and that is against my principles.”

As the family contemplated how to reunite the money with its owner, they heard an announcement on Arewa Radio, which provided a contact number for the owner. Salisu wasted no time in making the call, and they agreed to meet at the radio station, where the rightful owner finally received his money.

Salisu’s parents, despite facing financial difficulties and struggling to afford even two meals a day, stood by their son’s moral choice. Salisu’s father shared, “We barely cook two times in a day, even yesterday we couldn’t cook while the money was with us.”

In a heartwarming gesture of gratitude, the owner of the money, speaking through his brother Musa Hassan, expressed his disbelief that such honest individuals still existed. He had initially given up hope of ever seeing his money again. He extended his heartfelt appreciation to Salisu and his parents for instilling such strong moral values. As a token of his gratitude, the owner donated N400,000 to Salisu.
