President Denis Sassou Nguesso, leading the Republic of Congo government, categorically refutes the speculations surrounding a purported coup attempt.
On Sunday, numerous social media accounts circulated claims of an ongoing coup while President Nguesso was away.
However, the Minister of Communication and Media, Thierry Moungalla, promptly dispelled these rumors through his Twitter account.
“URGENT – Misleading information suggests significant developments unfolding in Brazzaville.
“The government unequivocally rejects these unfounded reports. We assure the public of the prevailing tranquility and urge everyone to carry on with their activities peacefully,” the minister tweeted.
President Nguesso, a former military officer, has held office since 1997.
