BREAKING: Tinubu Sets Date To Announce New Minimum Wage

In a significant development, President Bola Tinubu is poised to unveil a revised minimum wage for Nigerian workers in the upcoming week.

Comrade Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), shared this information following the union’s meeting with the federal government regarding the removal of fuel subsidies.

It is worth recalling that the TUC had previously given the federal government a two-week ultimatum to address their demands, warning of potential industrial action by workers nationwide.

During an appearance on ChannelsTV’s “Politics Today” on Tuesday evening, Osifo disclosed that the Minister of Labour, Simon Lalong, informed them of his discussions with President Tinubu and the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun.

Osifo relayed that Lalong had informed the union about the ongoing wage review and conveyed that President Tinubu would address the matter shortly.

“The Minister of Labour informed us that he had discussed the wage award issue with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Finance. However, the president has requested some final adjustments before making the official announcement,” stated the TUC president.

Osifo further explained, “The minister proposed that the details would be streamlined, but due to the president’s travel schedule, he requested an additional two weeks. We firmly declined, citing time constraints. After further discussions, the minister confirmed that the president will make the official announcement next week.”

Additionally, Osifo highlighted the union’s engagement with the federal government regarding the distribution of palliatives to states.

“We will closely monitor the distribution of palliatives in states to ensure proper implementation of the scheme. We have requested to review the implementation plan, which is why we engaged the federal government on this matter. Furthermore, we have raised concerns regarding taxation and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG),” added the TUC president.
