The Election petition tribunal in Kano State has officially declared Hon. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna as the rightful winner of the recent election held in Kano State.
Nasir Gawuna, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Kano election, approached the court to contest the victory of Abba Yusuf from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), who had been declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Today, the court has rendered its judgment on the petition filed by the APC and its candidate, affirming Nasiru Gawuna as the duly elected Governor of Kano state.
In the verdict rendered by the three-member panel over Zoom, the tribunal invalidated 165,663 votes from Gov. Abba Yusuf, contending that the corresponding ballot papers lacked proper stamping and signatures.
The Tribunal has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the certificate of return that was issued to Governor Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). Instead, and has directed that the certificate be issued to Dr. Nasir Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
