President Tinubu Set To Review NYSC Members Allowances

In response to the current high cost of living in the country, there may soon be a revision of allowances for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Brig. Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed, the Director General, disclosed this during an interactive session with the House of Representatives committee on youth development, led by Martins Etim Esin.

The NYSC leader indicated that the extent of the increment would hinge on the Federal Government’s review of workers’ salaries.

Ahmed also expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s support for the NYSC Trust Fund Bill, aimed at revitalizing the scheme’s skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development program launched in 2022.

He emphasized that corps members, trained in their areas of interest under this program, have the potential to become employers rather than relying on job offers after their service year.

Furthermore, the Director General reaffirmed the commitment to ensuring that participants are well-nourished during their orientation camp stays. He also mentioned proactive measures taken to address the recurring issue of members being rejected at their primary assignment locations.

Regarding the kidnapped corps members in Zamfara State, Ahmed reported collaborative efforts with security agencies and the Zamfara government to secure their release.

He concluded by highlighting the agency’s safety measures, particularly advising prospective corps members against night travel and encouraging them to seek refuge in military barracks or NYSC lodges if they reach their destinations after 6:00 p.m.
