Amid mounting speculation and concerns among Nigerians about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s whereabouts and well-being after his participation in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the presidency has chosen to remain tight-lipped, refusing to confirm or deny his return to the country.
This development has left the nation in a state of uncertainty, reminiscent of the past when former President Ummaru Musa ‘Yaradua’s prolonged absence raised similar questions.
The silence from the presidency has fueled various speculations, with citizens wondering if President Tinubu is alive and in good health. The lack of official communication has raised concerns about the transparency and accountability of the government.
BBC Hausa attempted to seek clarification on this matter by interviewing Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, the official responsible for advising the President on media and communications. In response, Abdulaziz cited security concerns as the reason for not disclosing the President’s whereabouts. However, he did not provide any specific details about the President’s location throughout the course of the interview with BBC Hausa.
Recalled that, President Tinubu’s last known activity during his trip was scheduled for September 21, 2023, when he had a meeting with Nigerians living in the United States, as reported by THE SPECTACLES.
He arrived in New York on September 18 to participate in the High-Level meetings of the 78th session of UNGA, which commenced with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) summit.
Upon his arrival, President Tinubu was received by top officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and the Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations, Prof. Tijjani Muhammad-Band.
However, the lack of subsequent updates or official statements regarding his return has left the Nigerian public in a state of uncertainty and concern.
