BREAKING: FG In A Crucial Meeting With Labour Leaders At Aso Rock

In an effort to potentially avert the proposed nationwide strike by Organised Labour, the Federal Government has convened a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

As of the time of preparing this report, prominent labour leaders have been seen arriving at the meeting venue. Notable attendees include Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emma Ugboaja, the General Secretary of the NLC, and Nuhu Toro, the General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Representing the government in this negotiation are Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajiabiamila, along with the Ministers of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong and Nkeiruka Onyejoecha, respectively.

It is worth noting that the NLC and TUC had previously issued a threat to initiate a nationwide indefinite strike on October 3rd, 2023, as a response to the Federal Government’s fuel subsidy removal policy.

This meeting takes place shortly after President Bola Tinubu’s announcement of a N25,000 salary increment for low-grade civil servants during his Independence Day Broadcast to the nation on Sunday.
