FG Extends Another Invitation To NLC For Crucial Meeting Today

In an effort to avert the impending nationwide indefinite strike declared by organized labor, the federal government has extended yet another invitation to labor leaders for a discussion scheduled for 2 pm today, October 1st, at the State House in Abuja.

The State House meeting originally planned for Friday, September 29, between government officials and labor representatives did not materialize due to the organized labor group’s decision to decline participation.

In a memorandum issued by the Federal Ministry of Labor and Employment, Director Emmanuel Igbinosun, representing the Minister, addressed the President of the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC), setting the meeting to take place in the State House’s Chief of Staff’s Conference Room.

The statement reads: “In continuation of my earlier correspondence on the aforementioned subject, I extend greetings on behalf of the Honorable Minister of Labor and Employment.

“I am instructed to invite the leadership of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) for a meeting with the Government regarding the subject, scheduled as follows: Date: Sunday, October 1st, 2023; Time: 2 pm; Venue: Aso Villa Conference Room of the Chief of Staff’s office to Mr. President.

“Please rest assured, as always, of the warm regards of the Honorable Minister of Labor & Employment,” the memorandum stated.

The meeting is expected to be attended by the national leadership of both the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Government representation at the meeting will include the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Minister of Labor and Employment, Hon. Simon Lalong, the Minister of State for Labor and Employment, Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha, as well as various other senior government officials.
