Gombe Govt Approves ₦10,000 Transport Allowance For Civil Servants

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has given his approval for a ₦10,000 transport allowance for state workers, pending the determination of a new minimum wage. Governor Yahaya made this announcement during his 63rd Independence Day address on Sunday.

As the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, he also revealed that the state is implementing a food distribution program aimed at assisting 400,000 beneficiaries.

Governor Yahaya stated, “Our administration has already granted a ₦10,000 transport allowance to all state workers, pending the finalization of a new minimum wage. Additionally, we have initiated a food distribution program with the goal of supporting 400,000 beneficiaries.”

It’s worth noting that the approved transport allowance amount is lower than the ₦35,000 granted to Federal Government workers by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Nigeria’s minimum monthly wage, established in 2019, stands at ₦30,000. However, with headline inflation soaring to 25.80 percent in August 2023, exacerbated by the removal of fuel subsidies, the call for a new wage has gained momentum.
