BUA Launches ₦2.5 Bn Cancer Treatment Centres In Kwara, Sokoto, Others

The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has officially initiated the construction of a ₦2.5 billion cancer and diagnostic facility in Kwara State.

This visionary project is the brainchild of Abdul Samad Rabiu, the esteemed founder and chairman of the BUA Group of Companies.

During the foundation laying ceremony in Kwara State, Dr. Ubong Udoh, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ASR Africa, affirmed that the project is scheduled to be completed within the next 12 months.

Dr. Udoh elaborated that BUA’s philanthropic initiative has selected four states—Sokoto, Ogun, Benin, and Kwara—for a grant totaling ₦10 billion. This grant will subsequently be distributed across the six geopolitical zones, ensuring equitable development across the nation.

Dr. Ubong emphasized that BUA’s investments in healthcare hold the promise of substantially reducing medical tourism in Nigeria, particularly in the context of cancer treatment.

He noted that these interventions are meticulously assessed based on applications from states, individuals, institutions, and other stakeholders, ensuring that the funding addresses the most pressing needs.

Furthermore, Dr. Ubong highlighted BUA’s broader commitment to philanthropy. Beyond healthcare, BUA has provided ₦13.5 billion in grants to 30 universities in the education sector and is involved in 16 international projects spanning the Republic of Ghana and Niger. Additionally, a ₦10 billion grant to security agencies and the armed forces is actively underway.

During the event, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq expressed profound gratitude to BUA for selecting Kwara as a beneficiary of its philanthropic endeavors.

He underscored the historical significance of this project, which is the first of its kind in the entire North Central region, positioning Kwara State as a premier destination for cancer treatment.
