The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather advisory, forecasting the likelihood of heavy rainfall in several states during the coming week. Here is the breakdown of the weather predictions:
Tuesday:
– Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Imo, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Kogi, and Ondo States.
– Low to moderate rainfall is anticipated in the FCT, Kaduna, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kwara, Edo, Abia, and Taraba State.
– Some states, including Katsina, Kano, Yobe, Jigawa, Bauchi, Ogun, Lagos, and Borno, may experience high temperatures.
Wednesday:
– Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Kaduna, Nasarawa, the FCT, Plateau, Taraba, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Ondo, Kwara, Edo, Kogi, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River State.
– Low to moderate rainfall should be anticipated in Ogun, Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Benue, Gombe, and Adamawa State.
– High temperatures may occur in northern states like Katsina, Kano, Yobe, Jigawa, Bauchi, and Borno.
Thursday:
– Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecasted in parts of Ogun, Lagos, Osun, Ekiti, the FCT, Kaduna, Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, Taraba, and Adamawa State.
– Low to moderate rainfall is expected in Oyo, Kogi, Bauchi, Borno, and Gombe State.
During this forecast period, NiMet warns that 24 hours of accumulated rainfall can lead to various hazards such as flash flooding, riverine flooding, soil erosion, thunder and lightning, and strong winds.
Additionally, there is a likelihood of very strong winds affecting the extreme north-eastern parts of the country, particularly Gombe, Yobe, Adamawa, and Borno State over the next three days (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Other states that may be affected include the FCT, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Kogi, and Nasarawa State.
