IGP Warns Police Officers Not Bring Returns To His Office

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has made it clear that he does not anticipate any financial returns from police officers and has urged them to remain diligent in fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities.

During a recent working visit to the Oyo Police Command in Ibadan, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 11, Paul Ojeka Odama, conveyed the IGP’s message to the officers. He advised them to abstain from engaging in any activities that could tarnish the reputation of the police force.

The IGP reiterated his firm stance against corruption and stated, “The police profession is noble and stands for justice and peace. Officers must remain vigilant against any behavior that could harm the good name of the Force.”

He further emphasized, “There’s a new Sheriff in town, and he is the IGP. He has consistently expressed his commitment to a zero-tolerance policy for corruption. He leads by example, and his track record, from his time as Commissioner of Police in Kwara state and in various other roles, speaks for itself. You must carry out your assignments with the fear of God and uphold the law in your duty.”

The IGP also cautioned police officers about their conduct on social media, especially in sharing posts. He urged them to verify information before sharing to prevent misinformation and the exacerbation of tension in their respective areas of responsibility.

In addition, the IGP stressed the importance of professional appearance for police officers both on and off duty, emphasizing that their attire reflects how they are perceived. He explained that the police force provides officers with three pairs of uniforms for specific days, ensuring that there are no excuses for shabby dressing while on duty.

Furthermore, the IGP encouraged officers to be financially responsible and avoid frivolous spending that brings no benefit to their families.

Addressing the officers, Commissioner of Police Adebola Hamzat attributed the state’s security successes to the collaboration between the police and sister agencies. He assured the newly posted AIG of the Command’s support and stated that his officers would continue to uphold the law in their duties. CP Hamzat also expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde and the state’s residents for their continuous support of the Command.
