BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints New EFCC Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has officially designated Ola Olukoyede as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Olukoyede’s appointment is effective for an initial term of four years, subject to Senate confirmation.

In a statement released by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale on Thursday, it was noted that President Tinubu’s authority to appoint the Chairman and members of the Commission is established under section 2 (3) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004.

Ngelale highlighted Olukoyede’s extensive qualifications, with over 22 years of experience as a regulatory compliance consultant and a specialist in fraud management and corporate intelligence. Notably, Olukoyede had previously served as the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman from 2016 to 2018 and as the Secretary to the Commission from 2018 to 2023, making him well-suited for the role of Chairman as per statutory requirements.

This appointment follows the resignation of the suspended Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.

Furthermore, President Tinubu has also approved the appointment of Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda as the Secretary of the EFCC. Hammajoda’s appointment is for an initial term of five years, pending Senate confirmation.

Hammajoda, a seasoned public administrator with expertise in public finance management, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri and a Masters in Business Administration from the same institution. His career path includes a background as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, and successful stints in the banking sector, including roles at the now-defunct Allied Bank and Standard Trust Bank.

President Bola Tinubu has charged the new leadership of the EFCC with the responsibility to justify the trust placed in them for this vital national mission.
