In a recent development, the management of the Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) has taken significant steps to ensure the safety of its students.
In light of the prevailing security concerns in the region, FUGUS has issued an important directive, urging its students to consider relocating to Sabon Gida, which is now fortified with a strong presence of armed security operatives. Alternatively, students are advised to stay within the confines of Gusau metropolis.
This decision stems from the growing vulnerability of students to bandit attacks, particularly in the outskirts, with a specific reference to the Damba area.
This crucial announcement was made through a press release, officially signed by the spokesperson of the institution, Umar Usman, and issued to The Spectacles in Gusau, the state capital.
Umar Usman detailed that a successful operation was carried out by the combined efforts of Operation Hadarin Daji and Metro Joint Patrol, codenamed “Eagle Eye.”
This operation resulted in the rescue of all four kidnapped students of the Federal University Gusau. The abduction had occurred on Saturday, October 14, 2023, in the Sabon Garin Damba Area of Gusau, Zamfara State.
The incident unfolded around 8:00 pm when four students were abducted from their rented apartment in the outskirts of Damba, an area in proximity to Gusau, the state capital.
Umar Usman disclosed that two of the four kidnapped students managed to escape their captors, while the remaining two were successfully rescued after an intense firefight between the security troops and the bandits.
The university administration’s decision to enhance student safety through this relocation directive underscores the gravity of the security challenges in the region.
It is a proactive step aimed at protecting the lives and well-being of FUGUS students, and it highlights the institution’s commitment to their safety and security.
