Cleric Tells Lawmakers To Enact Law Forcing Civil Servants To Add More Wives

Propose Legislation Encouraging Civil Servants to Consider Multiple Marriages, Suggests Religious Leader to Jigawa Legislators

Sheikh Aminu Baba Waziri, a highly respected Islamic cleric, has urged lawmakers in Jigawa to consider introducing legislation that would encourage civil servants at Level 12 or higher to contemplate the idea of taking on additional wives.

He made this proposal during a sermon at the Takur Commercial Mosque in Dutse, Jigawa State.

Sheikh Waziri emphasized that, considering the number of eligible women in society, men should explore the option of marrying additional wives for the betterment of society.

He expressed concern that despite the availability of women, including widows and those desiring marriage, many men, especially those already married, are not taking additional wives.

Sheikh Waziri emphasized the significance of marriage in Islam, citing both the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to underline its importance and value in the eyes of Allah.

Referring to Chapter 4:3 of the Holy Quran, he quoted: “Allah says, ‘You fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, marry women of your choice, two, or three, or four; but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or that which your right hands possess. That will be more suitable to prevent you from doing injustice.'”
