The incident, which occurred on the morning of October 18, 2023, has left the community in mourning and disbelief.

Grace Chalya Silas, a recent graduate of the University of Jos, fell victim to the heartless crime while she was out for her routine morning jog. The details surrounding the incident are still emerging, making it a deeply unsettling event for the local community and beyond.

The news of Chalya’s untimely death has sent shockwaves through her circle of friends and former course mates, many of whom have expressed their grief on social media platforms. On Facebook, Comfort Elisha, a friend of the deceased, expressed the collective grief of the community, saying, “No, what is really happening to Jossite and the Special Education department! We haven’t finished mourning Kekefas Emmanuel, and now it’s Chalya, brutally killed in Kaduna during her morning jog while serving her fatherland. May your killers know no peace, Chalya. This is too much to bear.”

Another friend added, “What is life all about? To struggle and be killed by anyone while you go for a morning jog? Or to sleep and not wake up? What is life? What is life? What is life? Chalya, you left a big wound that will take a while to heal. The people behind your death shall know no peace. It’s hard to say goodbye. But rest well with the Lord.”

The loss of Grace Chalya Silas is a painful reminder of the need for increased security measures in our communities. As more information becomes available, it is hoped that the perpetrators of this heinous act will be brought to justice, and Grace’s memory will be honored by the community she served.
