APC’s Defeat: Tambuwal’s Senate Victory Stands Tall

The Sokoto State Election Petition Tribunal, led by Justice Denis Echesi, has upheld the election of former Governor Aminu Tambuwal as the Sokoto South Senator. In a unanimous ruling, the three-member tribunal dismissed the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Abdullahi Danbaba. They failed to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt, and the tribunal ordered them to pay a fine of N200,000 to the Peoples Democratic Party and Tambuwal.

Dr. Suleiman Usman (SAN), the respondent’s counsel, stated that the tribunal thoroughly examined the case and found the petitioners’ evidence unreliable and often contradictory. The tribunal affirmed Tambuwal’s election as the Senator in the National Assembly.

On the other hand, Chris Ndeoyiro, counsel for the petitioners, expressed disappointment and mentioned their intention to review the judgment before deciding on their next steps.

Tambuwal had secured 100,860 votes, defeating Senator Danbaba of the APC, who received 95,884 votes, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
