The Supreme Court of Nigeria has granted permission for the live broadcast of its judgment on the appeals lodged by Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. These appeals challenge the validation of President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25th presidential election.
The decision to allow the live transmission of this judgment was given the green light by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola.
Atiku, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi, his counterpart in the Labour Party (LP), have contested the decision rendered by the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on September 6th.
The PEPC had upheld Tinubu’s election and dismissed the petitions filed by Atiku and Obi, citing a failure to substantiate their claims of electoral irregularities and malpractice.
Nonetheless, the two candidates maintain that the PEPC erred in its judgment and are now seeking the intervention of the Supreme Court to overturn it and declare them the victors of the election.
