Jumbo Allowances For Ex-Gov: Zamfara Dramatic Event Unfolds In Rivers Assembly

The unfolding drama, reminiscent of the events in Zamfara State, where the House of Assembly repealed the law approving substantial pensions for former governors, deputies, Speakers, and deputy Speakers, has now shifted its stage to Rivers State. The repercussions of this political turmoil have taken a destructive turn, with the Chamber of the Rivers State House of Assembly falling victim to a deliberate act of arson.

The catalyst for this unfortunate incident appears to be a cloud of uncertainty surrounding a rumored plan to impeach Governor Similanayi Fubara. Unverified sources have suggested that the arsonist managed to gain unauthorized access to the Assembly chamber on a fateful Sunday night, igniting a fire that threatened to engulf the entire complex. Fortunately, the swift response of the fire service personnel managed to prevent the flames from consuming the entire Assembly.

Despite our best efforts, we were unable to reach the Rivers State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe Koko, for a statement at the time of reporting. In response to the crisis, security measures have been significantly reinforced at the complex, while dedicated firefighters battle to contain the inferno.

Reliable sources have informed The Spectacles that the core issue at the heart of this impeachment saga involving the Governor of Rivers State lies in the former Governor’s recurring demand for ₦2 billion per month, which the incumbent Governor has steadfastly refused to remit for the past two months. It appears that this financial dispute has now escalated to a breaking point.

However, it is worth noting that there are indications of intervention from higher authorities, possibly the central government, in an attempt to prevent further escalation of this political crisis. We remain vigilant and continue to closely monitor the situation as it unfolds.
