Seeking Justice: Investigation Underway in FUT Minna Lecturer’s Murder

In a devastating incident that has sent shockwaves through the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger state, the lifeless body of Dr. Mrs. Adefolalu Funmilola, a female lecturer, was discovered on Sunday morning in her residence in the Gbaiko area of Minna.

Dr. Mrs. Adefolalu Funmilola, an accomplished academic from the Department of Biochemistry at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, had already achieved the rank of Associate Professor. She was on the verge of being promoted to the esteemed position of Professor, a career milestone expected before the end of this year. However, her promising future was cut short when the University Council disbanded and subsequently reconstituted.

The tragic revelation unfolded when members of her church visited her home and were alarmed by her absence from the church service. They made the grim discovery after forcibly entering her residence. Dr. Mrs. Adefolalu Funmilola was found lifeless in her room, her throat horrifically slit, with knives discovered beside her.

The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Federal University of Technology, Minna Chapter, Dr. Bolarin Gbolahan, expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity that has put the lives of academics at risk. He lamented the abduction of their members and the escalating insecurity in Minna. Dr. Gbolahan stressed the urgency of addressing these issues to prevent further deterioration.

The incident was also confirmed by the spokesman of the state police command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun. He explained that friends of Dr. Mrs. Adefolalu Funmilola visited her residence after failing to reach her by phone. The gruesome scene they encountered included her lifeless body, visible injuries, and two knives with blood stains suspected to have been used in the crime.

The body of Dr. Mrs. Adefolalu Funmilola was transported to IBB Hospital in Minna, where she was officially pronounced deceased. The authorities are currently conducting an investigation into this deeply distressing incident.
