Zamfara State Assembly Locks Its Doors Over Allowance Dispute

In an unexpected turn of events, the Zamfara State House of Assembly, located in Gusau, was forced to shut its doors. The reason behind this shutdown is an ongoing dispute over unpaid allowances, sparking outrage among the Assembly members.

The matter at hand has its roots in the non-payment of their allowances, which led to an impromptu meeting held in an undisclosed location by the Assembly members. The lawmakers are demanding the settlement of these outstanding entitlements, which are due from Governor Dauda Lawal Dare.

It has come to light that the Governor attempted to pacify the legislators by gifting them new Ford Cars, each valued at over 20 million Naira. However, this gesture appears to have fallen short of their expectations, as the grievances over unpaid allowances persist.

The closure of the Assembly was evident by the locked main entrance, with other offices connected to the legislative chamber similarly sealed off. Security personnel were deployed, maintaining a presence by the entrance gate.

Amidst the commotion, some of the Assembly staff chose to speak anonymously, unveiling the legislators’ demand for the payment of their allowances. This situation has arisen at a critical juncture, as 24 members of the House were expected to oversee the screening of 14 local government Caretaker Chairmen in the state.
